'Pushpa 2' Box Office Collection Day 10: Massive 71% Growth on Second Saturday
The growth comes despite controversy
surrounding Allu Arjun’s arrest on Friday, following an FIR filed by the
husband of a 39-year-old woman who tragically died at the film’s premiere show
at Sandhya Theatre on December 4. The incident, which also injured her son, led
to Arjun's arrest, but he was released on Saturday morning. Surprisingly, the
controversy has had no adverse effect on the film’s performance—in fact, it
appears to have heightened audience interest, leading to a substantial boost in
collections.
On Friday, the film collected Rs 36.5
crore, making Saturday’s jump all the more remarkable. According to Sacnilk,
the total domestic collection for Pushpa 2 across all languages now
stands at Rs 824 crore. The Hindi version alone accounts for Rs 498 crore of
this total, surpassing the Telugu earnings—a feat once considered unimaginable.
The film has also surpassed the
lifetime collections of blockbusters like Jawan and RRR,
cementing its place in cinematic history.
Aiming
for a Post-Pandemic Record
With strong momentum, Pushpa 2
is on track to become the first post-pandemic film to cross Rs 100 crore in its
second weekend. Having already earned Rs 62 crore on Saturday, industry experts
predict Sunday’s collections could bring the weekend total to Rs 150 crore or
more, especially given the holiday and the film’s immense buzz.
Before the pandemic, only Baahubali 2 and Dangal achieved second weekend collections exceeding Rs 100 crore, according to Box Office India.
Upcoming
Competition
While Pushpa 2 dominates the
box office, its Christmas competitor, Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, could
pose a challenge if it garners positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth.
However, unless Baby John proves exceptionally strong, Pushpa 2
is likely to maintain its grip on audiences and continue its remarkable run.
